12/5/2023 0 Comments Active fire hazard carrot weather![]() While large wildfires have occurred in this fire-adapted ecosystem for the past 10,000 years, usually these fires are quite patchy, with mostly low to medium severity. Additionally, in fall 2017, an extremely high-severity megafire, the Kenow wildfire, burned our study site. These animals will be roaming the prairie in our study site eventually. First, bison were reintroduced just north of our study site (in Banff National Park, Alberta), and south of our study site, in the Badger-Two Medicine and Chief Mountain area of Montana. Some big changes occurred in 2017 on our project. Climate change has increased the severity of wildfires worldwide. Additionally, our study has a climate change component. However, lacking bison and frequent fire, aspen are encroaching on shortgrass prairie. The combination of wolves and fire is leading to aspen rapidly growing above the height that elk can eat them and into the forest canopy. With the return of fire we’re noticing that aspen are sprouting more vigorously and growing faster. We’re also finding that wolves in some places reduce elk numbers to a more sustainable level. This effect is called “the ecology of fear” (Brown et al. This means that elk may not be eating aspen in places where wolves are present, because it is more difficult to escape a wolf in an aspen thicket than on open terrain (Eisenberg et al. ![]() With the return of wolves, we’re noticing changes in elk behavior and density (Smith et al. We also began to realize that fire is as important of an ecological force as wolves. and Canada, we began to conserve wolves and other large carnivores. At the same time that we wiped out wolves, we eliminated fire and bison ( Bison bison).īeginning in the mid-1970s, with the passage of powerful environmental laws in the U.S. Literally eating themselves out of house and home, elk damaged aspen to the point that few saplings survived to grow into mature trees. Burgeoning elk populations ravaged plant communities, including aspen forests (an important elk food). Without wolves preying on them, elk and deer exploded in number. These cascading direct and indirect food web interactions affect songbird and invertebrate species diversity, and are called trophic cascades.īy the 1920s, as was the case in much of North America, European settlers killed wolves to the point of near extinction. Large carnivores, such as wolves, and disturbances, such as fire, have been identified as forces of nature that increase biodiversity, create more resilient ecosystems, and help energy to cycle more vigorously through communities (Eisenberg et al. For nearly one hundred years, ecologists have recognized the powerful link between wolves ( Canis lupus), elk ( Cervus elaphus), aspen ( Populus tremuloides), grass, and fire (Leopold et al., 1947).

That depends on the state where you live and the terms of the car-selling service you select. What will you need to sell your car? Either route you choose, you'll almost always need current, valid registration papers any available key fobs/remotes and manuals valid state-issued photo ID and, typically, anyone named as an owner on the title needs to be present at the time of sale. Many people selling cars try both at the same time: shopping around for the best cash offer while testing the waters with a private listing. After all, they're trying to avoid the markup that always happens after a dealership buys a used car and puts it on their lot, so you might be able to meet in the middle and start at a higher asking price. Not every service with cash offers will take cars in any condition, and you may get more money for your car with a private buyer. Of course, that convenience may cost you. This is the easiest way to get top dollar for your used car. The service is reliable and has lots of enthusiastic clients who'll tell you the same thing. If you're lucky enough to live where We Buy Any Car has a presence, we strongly recommend you look there first when selling cars. Before you get too far down the track with this service, we suggest using the "Find Your Nearest Branch" option on the website to make sure there's a location convenient to you. Those include Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. That leads to the second drawback: We Buy Any Car only has offices in 16 states. First, they don't offer vehicle pickup you'll need to take your car to one of their brick-and-mortar locations (although we did see mention of "mobile assessments" in some customers' reviews). There are only two downsides we found when using We Buy Any Car. They describe this service as fair, accurate and honest, and many reviewers say that they got a much higher offer for their vehicle here than anything quoted by a dealership. We were floored when we started looking into this company's reputation: not only do they have an "A+" rating and accreditation with the Better Business Bureau (with only five complaints in the last three years), but they've earned more than 22,000 five-star ratings from clients. However, don't let that stop you from considering We Buy Any Car. Cheesy radio ads and a website that looked a little basic gave an impression that wasn't exactly off the charts in trustworthiness. Speaking honestly, we initially had our doubts about this service. The entire process can be completed in 30-60 minutes. If you choose to accept the offer and your paperwork is in order, you can walk out with a check. That will be used to make a firm, no-obligation offer on the car. When you take your vehicle in, a representative will perform an on-site inspection (which you can participate in) and possibly a short test drive. In the past, We Buy Any Car allowed walk-ins however, they currently operate by appointment only. If you like the preliminary valuation you see, your next step is to select the branch near you and set up a date and time for an appointment. You may have extra questions to answer based on what you entered in the previous ones. ![]() Finally, indicate whether the car has ever been in an accident or currently has cosmetic or mechanical issues, provide your mileage and contact information, and then click to see your valuation. ![]() Next, select any applicable trim levels or features from the dropdown boxes. And so he’s a valuable guy to have on our team. And I’m telling you, as a coach, you don’t get a lot of those. “He has not lost any energy as far as wanting to be a player. “What I love about Danny is he’s played one thousand years and he still has this zest to show up every day and play every day, and he loves it every day,” Morey said. Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey voiced his admiration for Green in the wake of Game 6. … I was finally able to sneak out there the last couple minutes of the fourth to see my guys and say goodbye to the fans.” But I was like, ‘I’m just putting my sweatshirt on, just going to sit at a table and watch the game,’ whether it’s to help coaching or encouraging, just to have my energy there for them. Green suffered ACL and LCL tears in the first quarter of the Sixers’ dismal Game 6 playoff loss to the Heat in 2022.ĭespite the severity of his injury, Green was determined to return to the sideline for the closing minutes. The last time Embiid and Green shared the court, the All-Star big man inadvertently toppled into Green’s left leg. Liberty Ballers' Paul Hudrick reported Wednesday that Green's contract is non-guaranteed. The veteran wing has signed a one-year deal with the team, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark late Tuesday night.ĮSPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news and wrote that Green’s “relationships - especially with Joel Embiid and new coach Nick Nurse - play a part in the team's desire to bring him into training camp with a strong chance to make the opening night roster.” It does not appear that Danny Green’s final appearance as a member of the Sixers will come on crutches. That’s about it for me, I don’t see the upside with taking him in the top 50.Sixers bringing back Danny Green for second stint originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia Harris will have value as a handcuff of sorts to Embiid or Simmons. Rivers will probably instill that in him early on, focusing on Simmons and Embiid while kicking the ball out to shooters like Curry and Green. Tobias Harris - This has to be the season where Harris realizes the only way his team is going to win is if he takes fewer shots. In deeper formats, Curry is a decent final pick to stash on your bench if you need 3-point shooting. He’s never shot below 42 percent from 3-point range in a season in his career. If Curry can stay on the court, he has the fast-track to play most of the minutes at SG. Curry hasn’t been able to stay healthy, which is the only reason he’s in Philadelphia.
